Three Hurt as Car Overturns in Woods in Lawrence
Accident happened about 12:15 p.m. Friday, Dec. 30, along the northbound side of the Trenton Freeway (Route 1), north of the Whitehead Road exit.
Three young men were injured Friday (Dec. 30) when the car in which they were traveling veered off the Trenton Freeway (Route 1) and overturned, coming to rest on its side against a tree in Lawrence Township.
The accident occurred about 12:15 p.m. along the northbound side of Trenton Freeway, between the Whitehead Road exit and where the Route 1 expressway merges with Business Route 1 (Brunswick Pike).
Benjamin Rubin, 20, of Glen Ridge in Essex County, told police he was driving the 2002 Toyota Camry in the right northbound lane when he started to drift toward another vehicle in the left lane and overcorrected, according to Lawrence Township Police Sgt. Chris Longo.

Rubin lost control and the Camry veered off into the woods, ending up on its passenger’s side, Longo said.
Rubin and his two passengers – ages 19 and 20 – were able to climb out of the wreckage on their own prior to the arrival of emergency personnel.

They were treated on the scene by emergency medical personnel and then transported by ambulance to Capital Health System Regional Medical Center in Trenton. Their injuries were not considered life-threatening, according to police and emergency officials.
Rubin was issued a careless driving ticket by Officer Shawn Carroll, who investigated the crash, according to Longo.
