World Trade Center Steel Passes Through Lawrence
Lawrence Township firefighters stood at attention and saluted as the steel passed through town en route to a 9/11 memorial being built in Hopewell Township.
A piece of World Trade Center steel passed through Lawrence Township this afternoon (Tuesday, Aug. 16) on its way to Hopewell Township where it will form part of the Hopewell Valley 9/11 Memorial being constructed at Alliger Park off Washington Crossing-Pennington Road..
Escorted by a procession of state troopers and fire apparatus from Hopewell Township, Hopewell Borough and Pennington Borough, the steel – carried aboard a flatbed – traveled along Interstate 95 through Lawrence Township about 1 p.m.
As the steel passed by below, a group of Lawrence Township firefighters stood at attention atop the Lawrence Road (Route 206) overpass and saluted in honor of the nearly 3,000 victims of the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, including the 343 New York City firefighters who died in the line of duty trying to save others.
