Murder, Gang Charges In Asbury Park Fatal Shooting Last Summer

A 19-year-old Long Branch man is charged with murder and gang criminality for the shooting of three men in Asbury Park Gardens last summer:

LONG BRANCH, NJ — A Monmouth County grand jury returned an indictment of gang-related killing of a Long Branch man for a July 2023 fatal shooting in Asbury Park.

The Long Branch man is Michael Sally, 19. Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond Santiago said he shot three young men, killing one, last summer in the Asbury Park Gardens apartment complex on Atlantic Avenue.

Sally was indicted this week on one count each of first-degree murder, attempted murder, conspiracy and gang criminality, plus weapons offenses.

Shortly after 10:30 p.m. on July 3, 2023, Asbury Park Police were dispatched to the public housing complex for a report of a shooting.

Upon arrival, officers located three young men who had been shot. They were rushed to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, where Lativity Lyons, 21, of Asbury Park, succumbed to his injuries and died at the hospital at 10:50 p.m.

The other two young men were treated and released.

A fourth victim, the intended target of the shooting, was uninjured.

Sally was apprehended June 5 of this year in Long Branch and he remains in the Monmouth County Jail as the case proceeds against him.
