LONG VALLEY, NJ — This year's Toys for Tots holiday drive was another successful effort in Long Valley, with approximately 1000 toys donated to the local police department.

The donation drive, which was held in collaboration with Toys for Tots, a national charitable program run by the US Marine Corps Reserve, was held all throughout the month of November, ending on Dec. 16.

According to Cpl. Derek Heymer of the Washington Township Police Department, officers collected several hundred toys from local schools in addition to the toys donated to the police department.

Those donations were made outside the Toys for Tots donation program and will serve individual families in the Long Valley area.

Toy collection bins were inside Long Valley Middle School, Old Farmers Road School and Valley Brook Country Day School.

"In addition to the toys donated to Toys for Tots we donated several hundred toys to Long Valley Community Assistance Program; they disperse the toys to local families through the food pantry," Heymer said.

The collected toys will be distributed to children whose families may be struggling financially and unable to purchase gifts during the holiday season as part of the national program.

"Thank you to all of the officers who participated and to all the people in town who made donations," police said.
