40 Seat Belt, 2 DWI, 2 Cell Phone Tickets: 'Click It' Campaign Total In Long Valley

Two-week initiative included 100 extra patrol hours in Washington Township.

LONG VALLEY, N.J. – Extra Washington Township police department patrols spent two weeks cracking down on seat belt violators between late May and early June, turning up some 181 tickets, Lt. Doug Compton said.

The department received a $5,000 grant from the New Jersey Division of Highway Safety to add 100 man hours to the two-week time span as part of the Click It Or Ticket initiative.

  • 40 seat belt violations
  • 2 driving while intoxicated
  • 1 controlled dangerous substance
  • 10 careless driving
  • 2 reckless driving
  • 2 cell phone use
  • 7 driving while suspended
  • 10 speeding
  • 107 other violations (non-moving or other classifications)

Washington Township was one of 16 law enforcement agencies in Morris County to receive the $5,000 grant.
