Celebrate National Family Month In Long Valley With Free Genealogy Open Houses

Seasoned amateur genealogists will be available to help you begin to research your family, organizers said.

LONG VALLEY, N.J.– The Washington Township Public Library's Family Roots & Shoots Club is celebrating National Family History Month on Saturday by sponsoring two, free genealogy open houses.

Seasoned amateur genealogists will be available to help you begin to research your family, organizers said.

At the open house, learn how to read a census record, see what can be found in an obituary, find good clues on a birth certificate, and discover the many sources available to you in searching for your roots, organizers added.

The event takes place from 1-4 p.m. at the library, located 37 E. Springtown Road.

"To prepare for your visit, pick a particular person in your family about whom you want to know more, and bring as much information about that person as you have," organizers said. "A Family Roots & Shoots researcher will show you what the next step is on the journey to finding out more about that person and filling in that empty family tree branch."
