New Ice Rink Opening Date Still Unknown In Long Valley

The Palmer Park ice rink is located on Bartley Road and Palmer Place.

LONG VALLEY, NJ — The winter storm moving through Washington Township and sections of Morris County may still provide some benefits.

Although the official opening date for the new Palmer Park ice rink is unknown, the cold temperatures this weekend may indicate that it's almost time to sharpen your skates and grab your coats.

The new ice rink, which was officially announced earlier this month, has not yet been able to open due to the lack of freezing temperatures, according to Washington Township Mayor Matt Murello.

However, the expected freezing temperatures this weekend might do the trick. The National Weather Service predicts a high of 16 degrees on Saturday, rising only to 25 degrees on Sunday with an overall low of 7 degrees.

Temperatures are expected to remain below 35 degrees into the middle of next week, forecasters predict.

The new rink has been installed on the infield of one of Palmer Park's baseball fields.

Once the ice is completely frozen, the rink will be open from dawn to dusk for everyone to enjoy. The new rink will only be open for general ice skating, with no hockey allowed. Residents are also asked to park only in the lower lot and access the rink via the dugout and fencing.
