LONG VALLEY, NJ — Although the icy cold temperatures from last week's winter storm have finally subsided, the temporary rink at Palmer Park has finally frozen and is ready for skaters.

The brand-new ice skating rink in Long Valley has opened for the season and if you haven't been there already, maybe this week would be a good time.

Skaters are reminded to be cautious and to remember that the rink is only open for general ice skating; no hockey is permitted on the ice.

Although the rink is now open, temperatures are anticipated to rise in the area, making the longevity of the ice rink uncertain.

The rink is located at Plamer Park, which is located on Bartley Road and Palmer Place, in Long Valley. The park is currently home to three softball fields, one Babe Ruth field, four little league fields, three all-purpose fields, along with a walking trail and a community garden.

The new rink has been installed on the infield of one of Palmer Park's baseball fields.

Mayor Matt Murello stated that no fields were dug up or damaged in any way to make way for the rink, which was a source of concern for some residents when the rink was first proposed, and that the township intends to keep it that way.

The ice rink is open every day from dawn to dusk, as long as the ice remains frozen, officials said.

No food or drink is allowed while on the ice and all children must be accompanied by an adult in order to skate. For more information, click here.
