Updated: Power Back On In Madison

Homes and traffic signals went dark earlier this afternoon

MADISON, NJ—A widespread power outage occurred in Madison around 1:30 p.m., darkening traffic signals, homes, and knocking out air conditioning to customers, many of whom recently had power restored after last week's storm.

The borough's electric utility responded and repaired a feeder line coming from out of town, restoring service by about 3:00 p.m. Mayor Bob Conley said the quick response and repair is one of the reasons the town has its own electric utility.

"We have crews working in Chatham, Florham Park [helping JCP&L restore power]" the mayor said, "and this is a good example of why we have that infrastructure. We can help our neighbors out but we always have crews available here to respond to emergencies like this."
