Lake Street Road Closure Starts Monday

Portion of the Ramsey Roadway will be closed to traffic in both directions for up to a year, officials say.

The following message was sent to residents by the borough of Ramsey.

Earlier in the year, the Borough of Ramsey was informed that the bridge near what is commonly referred to as Napolitano’s Pond on Lake Street (between Duck Pond Lane & Lakeview Terrace), will be replaced by the County of Bergen.

The County has contracted with D.R. Mullen Construction Co. Inc to perform the work.

The project will begin on Monday November 4 and Lake Street will be closed between Franklin Turnpike and East Crescent for the duration of the project to both east and westbound traffic. Local traffic will be allowed on Lake Street. The County of Bergen has provided for up to one year to complete this project.

As noted, the closures will be at Franklin Turnpike and East Crescent Avenue, however local traffic will be allowed onto Lake Street. While there will be local access, due to the work zone at the bridge, there will be no through traffic at that section so local traffic vehicles will need to enter Lake Street from the appropriate side of the bridge either Franklin Turnpike or East Crescent Avenue.

The specific detour routes will be signed on the streets and are detailed at the bottom of this release and are posted for review on the Ramsey Police Department website as well as the Borough’s website. There will also be additional electronic signs advising of the road closure and detours.

Due to this road closure, the Ramsey Police Department is advising that residents allow for additional travel time within the Borough, particularly during opening and dismissal of schools.

If you should need any additional information regarding the Lake Street road closing, please check our website at: www.ramseypd.org or follow on Twitter at @ramseypd and also on Facebook as well as the Borough website at www.ramseynj.com

The Lake Street Detours are as follows:
  • Vehicles northbound on Rt 17 looking to exit on Lake Street for travel to East Main Street. Should continue on Rt 17 north to the North Franklin Turnpike exit. Make a left at the exit back over Rt 17 onto N. Franklin Turnpike heading southbound then right onto East Main St.
  • Vehicles traveling westbound on Lake St from the east side of Rt 17 should exit Lake Street (at traffic signal) before Rt 17 overpass) following signs for Rt 17 northbound to North Franklin Turnpike exit and follow directions above
  • Vehicles traveling eastbound from Main Street on Lake St to get to Rt 17 will be diverted north on North Franklin Turnpike for both Route 17 north and southbound traffic.
  • Vehicles traveling east from Main Street wanting to continue on Lake St past Rt 17 overpass will be diverted north on North Franklin Turnpike for Route 17 southbound. Should then exit Rt 17 south at the Lake Street exit (immediately after overpass) and travel over Rt 17 and continue on Lake St eastbound.
