Mahwah Driver 'Purposefully Crashes' Into Another Car, Charged: Police
Baron Chan was accused of purposefully steering his car into another, causing the other driver to veer off the road, police said.
MAHWAH, NJ — A Mahwah man stands accused of purposefully steering his car into another, causing the other driver to lose control and veer off the road, according to authorities.
Baron Chan, 34, purposefully caused the crash last week on Route 17 South, and then fled and later returned when officers were on scene, Ridgewood police chief Jacqueline Luthcke said.
Chan, who was accused of recklessly driving his BMW M5 at a high rate of speed, crashed into the other vehicle at about 6 p.m. Thursday in Ridgewood, Luthcke said.

Both drivers were interviewed at the scene, and Chan was arrested and later charged with possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, assault by auto, and criminal mischief. He was also served 11 motor vehicle summonses, including leaving the scene of an accident and reckless driving, police said.
The Mahwah man was taken to Bergen County Jail where he is to await an initial court appearance, police said.
