MAHWAH, NJ - A floating island is set to launch this weekend in Mahwah’s Winters Pond, set to help the township reduce algae and pollution, township officials said.

The brainchild of Eagle Scout Tommy McKeon of Mahwah Boy Scout Troop 258, the floating pond also aims to create a habitat for fish and other animals, officials said.

The floating island, which McKeon also constructed, will launch at Winters Pond on June 3 at 11 a.m.
