MAHWAH, NJ — After Tropical Storm Debby caused flooding near the Mahwah train station two weeks ago, Mayor Jim Wysocki complained that the area had been susceptible to floods for around a year, and that NJ Transit had been slow to act to fix a broken culvert near the tracks.

But following a TV interview, the mayor said last week that the transit agency had finally begun to fix the damage. In a subsequent interview, he said he was grateful they were finally taking action.

Wysocki said in a message last week, "Hi everyone, NJ Transit/South Railroad Ave update: Thank you to our DPW for removing large debris and rocks from the drainage pipes along South Railroad Ave. New Jersey Transit seems to be making progress on the collapsed culvert behind the mall apartments."

He added, "The photos show the damaged drain pipe, which is being addressed. Thank you everyone for your patience. We won't stop until this is fixed correctly."
