UPDATE: Mahwah Public Schools Call Early Dismissal Monday, Mahwah Mayor Says 'We are prepared.'

"DPW crews are repairing broken equipment from yesterday's storm and continuing to clear sidewalks and intersections today," the Mayor said.

Mahwah Public Schools will follow a single session schedule Monday after Mahwah Mayor Laforet issued a statement reassuring residents that the Township is prepared for the upcoming snow storm, which is scheduled to hit the state Monday and Tuesday.

“As you might have heard, Monday is developing into a significant (Two-Day Snowstorm) Nor’easter with potential blizzard conditions.

I have spoken with the DPW and the Mahwah Police Department this morning with a follow up meeting Monday to coordinate our response.

Immediate concerns are, public safety, school closures, clearing roads, Police issues, Ambulance, and OEM, and power outages.

This afternoon the Chief of Police, Superintendent of Schools, and myself will be discussing contingencies regarding school safety and transportation issues.

Snow fall could be in excess of one foot, or more of snow. Current models indicate as much as 14” of snow.”

The National Weather Service is saying a “blizzard watch” is in effect beginning Monday afternoon and lasting through Tuesday as the ”major” snowstorm is expected to batter New Jersey for two days.

“We are prepared,” Mayor Laforet told Patch. “We are fixing equipment and loading sanders.”

There will be a series of NIXLE (text Mahwah1 to 888777) alerts sent out to the Mahwah community, and information regarding a variety of issues and information throughout the storm, according to Mayor Laforet.

“As time permits, we will keep you apprised of the progress and conditions.”
