Mahwah Mom Of 2 Dies After Being Hit By Truck; Family Raises Funds

A Mahwah woman was fatally struck by a truck outside of her job, says a fundraiser for the family. Services will be Friday.

MAHWAH, NJ — A Mahwah mom has been taken off life support after being hit by a truck last month, and now friends are helping her husband and kids with a fundraiser.

According to the GoFundMe, Mahwah resident Belina Ang was hit by a pickup truck near her job in East Rutherford on Jan. 30. She was brought to Hackensack Meridian Hospital with severe head trauma and put on life support.

She was declared brain dead, the fundraiser says.

"Belina's husband, Takis, and their daughter and son, Daphne, and George, made the decision to donate some of her organs," the fundraiser notes.

"Belina often took vacation from work to help out at the Mahwah Marching Thunderbird Band Camp," the fundraiser says. "She served food and water to keep the students nourished and hydrated as they practiced. On particularly hot days, Belina was seen on the field hosing the kids down to keep them cool!"

The fundraiser says, "Takis, Daphne, and George will need the love and financial support from their family, friends, and their community. This was a sudden tragedy, and the Kalkanis family will be faced with a mountain of tasks, new processes, and, unfortunately, unexpected bills."

An obituary for Ang says she was 56.

It notes, "It is with heavy hearts and fond remembrance that we announce the passing of our beloved mama, Belina Lim Ang, a woman whose tenacity and strength of will were matched only by her undeniable charm and infectious joy. Belina, a tiny bundle of happiness, touched the lives of everyone around her."

The visitation and funeral will be this Friday in Saddle River.
