Recently the sixth graders and their teachers from Ramapo Ridge Middle School spent two nights and three days at the Frost Valley Environmental Education Center in Claryville, New York.

This trip has become an annual event for the incoming sixth grade classes at Ramapo Ridge. At Frost Valley, the students get to camp out in lodges and spend time exploring the wilderness. Various assemblies are held and demonstrations are given. There are many outdoor activities, including hiking and rock climbing.

The program is designed to encompass a variety of subjects aligned with the curriculum while providing different modes of learning. It allows for individual differences, exploration of the unknown and analytical thinking.

The objectives of the trip are to help develop positive working relationships among peers and with teachers. The trip also encourages the students to make other friends and bond through team building and confidence building exercises. Upon their return, the students were tired, but happy and full of stories!
