Weather: Bergen County Will Get Severe Thunderstorms Monday Afternoon

Expect strong thunderstorms in Bergen County today, capable of winds up to 70 miles per hour and heavy rain around the afternoon commute.

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — Expect strong thunderstorms in Bergen County today, capable of winds up to 70 miles per hour and heavy rain in addition to lightning and thunder.

The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm watch until 8 p.m. for most of the state.

The timing of the most potent storms will be from Monday afternoon through Monday evening, according to forecasters with AccuWeather. Bergen County will see the worst of it in the mid-to-late afternoon and into the early evening, radar shows, so the storms will likely make commuting difficult.

Temperatures will fall to about 71 degrees by 5 p.m., according to the National Weather Service. Total rainfall accumulation is between a quarter inch and three-quarters of an inch.

The low tonight is around 53 degrees, according to the NWS.
