Violent Crime Flat, Larceny Reports Rose in Englishtown in 2013

Preliminary data from the Uniform Crime Report shows last year's crime information.

Reported crimes in Englishtown increased 37.5 percent last year, largely on an increase in larceny, according to data released by State Police as part of the annual Uniform Crime Report (UCR).

The Uniform Crime Report tallies incidents of violent and nonviolent crime, including murder, rape, assault, burglary and larceny. In 2013, the New Jersey State Police began releasing preliminary data month by month. This preliminary 2013 Uniform Crime Report information is subject to verification and review before the NJSP releases its official annual report.

Because of Englishtown's size, the data set for reported crimes is smaller and individual incidents can swing the percentage increase or decrease significantly.

According to the preliminary data, Englishtown reported 33 crimes in 2013 and 24 in 2012.

Non-violent crime rose from 18 incidents in 2012 to 29 in 2013. There was one violent crime incident in each year.

The data cites 26 larceny reports in 2013, or a 62.5 percent increase over the 16 reports in 2012.

One vehicle was stolen and two burglaries were reported in 2013. Simple assaults dropped 40 percents, with three incidents reported in 2013, as compared to five in 2012.
