Amazon Van Goes Up In Flames On Manchester Street

There were no injuries, authorities said.

MANCHESTER, NJ — An Amazon package delivery vehicle caught fire on Tuesday, forcing authorities to shut down Manchester Boulevard while the fire was fought, police said Wednesday.

The fire was reported at 1:27 p.m. Tuesday, Manchester Lt. Albert Vega said.

The van, which was near the intersection of Manchester Boulevard and Central Avenue, was completely engulfed, Vega said.

The van was not occupied and police confirmed there was no immediate danger to surrounding residents or motorists, he said.

The Manchester Fire Department and Whiting Volunteer Fire Department quickly extinguished the fire. Members of Manchester Township Emergency Medical Services also responded but there were no injuries reported.

Manchester Boulevard was closed from Lakewood Avenue to Manchester Avenue for about 30 minutes, Vega said.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, but the initial evaluation did not reveal any indications of suspicious activity, he said.

The fire is under investigation by the Manchester Police Department and Ocean County Fire Marshal’s Office.
