Storm Washes Out National Night Out In Manchester

Authorities are making plans to reschedule the event to connect the communities of Manchester and Lakehurst with their police officers.

MANCHESTER, NJ — Thunderstorms rolling through Ocean County Tuesday evening have forced authorities to cancel the joint Lakehurst-Manchester National Night Out event, officials said.

"Mother Nature has Spoken," the 5 p.m. announcement by Manchester Township police said. "Despite our best efforts to monitor the weather, we regret to inform you that we must cancel National Night Out. Please stay tuned for updates on a new date!"

The event was expected to include raffles and prizes, food trucks, free water and soda, live music, and the chance to see first responder equipment and vehicle displays, K-9 and SWAT demonstrations, a physical fitness competition, traffic safety and a DWI simulation.

The highlight of the event will be the competition between Lakehurst and Manchester police to see who can eat the most doughnuts.
