Crime Increases in Colts Neck Since 2012; Marlboro Sees Slight Decrease

Crime statistics in both townships compared February, 2013 to February, 2012.

Colts Neck Township saw a slight crime bump in February of this year when compared to 2012, while Marlboro Township experience a very small decrease.

The New Jersey State Police Uniform Crime Reporting Unit has taken a significant step forward in reporting crime throughout the state. A link was placed on the public web site that connects users to very recent and comparative crime data for municipalities and counties. The data is updated every week, or as often as municipalities provide fresh numbers. 

Data is compared to the same month of the previous year.

In Marlboro

Compared to February, 2012, crime in Marlboro only decreased 3.2 percent in the same month this year.

Overall, 30 incidents were reported this year while 31 were reported in 2012. The township saw a slight increase in burglary by forcible entry as well as larceny and car theft.

The township saw in increase in non-violent crime by 13.6 percent. Violent crime remained at zero.

Marlboro Township saw a decrease simple assault and attempted burglary. No incidents were reported this year regarding strong-arm robbery and theft by unlawful entry.

In Colts Neck

Crime reports increase 28.6 percent in Colts Neck, from seven incidents in February 2012 to nine incidents in February of this year.

The township saw an increase in burglary by forcible entry, increasing its report by one incident. Larceny also went up, from three incidents to five incidents.

Overall, Colts Neck saw a 75 percent increase in non-violent crime and no increase in violent crimes.
