Former Marlboro Coach and Freehold First Aid Member Dies at 75

The funeral for John Henry "Jack" Schellenger, Jr. is on Saturday, Feb. 9.

John Henry "Jack" Schellenger, Jr., 75, of Freehold died at home on Sunday, Feb. 3.

Schellenger was born in Wildwood and had resided in Freehold for the past 44 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran and was a graduate of Manasquan High School and Missouri Valley College. He was a teacher and coach at Marlboro High School and Freehold High School, and a coach at Manasquan High School before his retirement.

Schellenger was a former lieutenant for the Cape May Beach Patrol. He was also a 25-year member and former Captain of the Freehold First Aid and Emergency Squad; a member of the Cape Island Deer Club; and a member of Board 194 Basketball Referee Organization.

Surviving are his wife, Jean Corsaro Schellenger; a son, John H. Schellenger, III, of Freehold; a daughter, Dawn Schellenger, of Ocean Township; and two sisters, Donna Marie Mayer, of Wall Township and Elna Marie Daidone and her husband John, of Fairless Hill, Pennsylvania.

Relatives and friends are invited to gather on Saturday, Feb. 9  at 8:30 a.m. at Higgins Memorial Home.

Graveside services will follow at 11 a.m. at Cold Spring Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Cold Spring. Memorial donations to the Schellenger Memorial Foundation, PO Box 6957, Freehold, NJ 07728 are appreciated.
