Man Arrested for Allegedly Choking and Punching Dog in Marlboro

Philip John Lupo, Jr. allegedly choked, punched and threw a small dog named Louie against a wall.

A New York man was arrested Tuesday and charged with animal cruelty after allegedly choking a small dog in Marlboro Township.

Philip John Lupo, Jr., 27, of Huntington, NY was arrested after allegedly choking, punching and throwing a Shih Tzu-Maltese mix named Louie.

Marlboro Township police investigated the incident, which according to the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office occurred on Hummingbird Court.

Marlboro Police Officers James Donovan and Andrew DelCora, and SPCA Sgt. Anthony Lena handled the investigation.

Victor “Buddy” Amato, Chief Humane Law Enforcement Officer at the Monmouth County SPCA said Louie is currently being checked by a veterinarian.

Lupo is charged with one count of animal cruelty by abusing a living creature, and bail was set at $2,500.

Lupo faces up to six months in jail and a $1,000 fine if convicted.
