Man Killed in Route 9 Car Accident Near Symmes Drive
A Manalapan man died and his wife was critically injured following a Saturday evening accident on Route 9.

A Manalapan man was killed and his wife was critically injured in a Saturday evening accident on Route 9 South just north of Symmes Drive, according to police.
Arthur Thompson, 70, suffered an unknown medical condition while driving on which caused him to run off of the roadway and strike a tree. While transporting Arthur Thompson to the hospital for treatment he was pronounced dead.
His wife Lilly Thompson, 68, was a passenger in the vehicle at the time of the collission, police said. She suffered serious injuries and was transported by medevac to a local hospital; police reported that her injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.

The Manalapan Police Department, Gordon's Corner Fire Company, Englishtown-Manalapan First Aid Squad, and MONOC all responded to the accident. The right lane and shoulder of Route 9 was closed for an investigation after the accident around 6:30 p.m. and later reopened at around 9:30 p.m., police said. The accident is still under investigation by Traffic Safety Officer Ptl. Dominick Donatelli, Jr. and Ptl. Matthew Meyler.
