MENDHAM, NJ — A road project anticipated to take two months to finish, is scheduled to begin on Friday, according to Mendham Township officials.

Initially planned to have begun on Thursday, the construction will shut down Corey Lane to Leddel Road entirely for about 60 days beginning Friday, the police department stated in an announcement about the project on Monday, with an update on Wednesday about the start date change.

Mendham Township Police Chief Ross Johnson told Patch on Tuesday, the intersection has “the highest accident rate in the township.”

He said the County of Morris is using a contractor that won the bidding for the project “to improve the sight distance and make it [the intersection] safer.”

The project has been planned to regrade and re-engineer a curve in the roadway, according to the township.

Johnson said the road will be barricaded and blocked, with a detour.

Drivers have been told to allow extra travel time for their commute.

The project, which is slated for completion by the end of April, was awarded to Your Way Construction in Irvington, according to Brian Murray, a spokesperson for the County of Morris.

The project, which will cost the county $677,948.67, will begin with the construction of a retaining wall, before roadwork starts, Murray said.

The county is picking up all the costs, without any state or township contributions toward the project, said Murray.
