Boil Advisory Lifted For Chester, Randolph Water Customers
A water main break on Friday caused customers to experience a loss in water pressure, and prompted a boil alert order for several days.
CHESTER, NJ — A boil water advisory has been lifted for Randolph residents and some Chester water customers, officials said.
There was a water main break near the intersection of Pleasant Hill Road and Chester Avenue on Friday afternoon, which caused customers to experience a loss in water pressure, and prompted a boil alert order for several days. The break was repaired on Saturday.
To make sure water is safe, the Morris County Municipal Utilities Authority recommends taking the following steps:

- Run your water faucets for 3-5 minutes to flush your service connection and interior plumbing with water from the service main.
- Empty and clean your automatic ice makers and water chillers.
- Drain and refill your hot water heater if the temperature is set below 113 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Service connections with a water softener/cartridge filters should be run through a regeneration cycle or other procedures recommended by the manufacturer.
- Water reservoirs in tall buildings should be drained and refilled (as applicable)
For those who rely on a private well for their water, the Raritan Headwaters Association said that earthquakes can cause changes to their well and recommends that people inspect the well, monitor the water clarity, and consider well testing.
