Brookside Engine Company Seeks Donations For Mendham Hydrant Markers

Only 45 percent of Mendham Township is protected by fire hydrants, according to Brookside Engine Co. The markers help with hydrant location.

MENDHAM, N.J.– Brookside Engine Company (Mendham) is purchasing hydrant markers for the winter and is asking for donations.

The markers help find firefighters find hydrants "in low light, wooded areas and when snow covered," according to a press release from the department.

Only 45 percent of Mendham Township is protected by fire hydrants, the release states.

"This means that we, the firefighters, rely on the few we have in addition to alternate water sources. If we cannot find the hydrant, we cannot use it," the release continues.

Brookside says it's $500 short of its goal.
