Chester Police Increase Patrols To Crack Down On Retail Theft
Several stores in Chester have been the victims of retail theft, which damages businesses and stifles commerce, police said.

CHESTER, NJ — Police have increased patrols and their presence in Chester stores in response to an ongoing increase in shoplifting incidents in their jurisdiction.
Christopher Cavanagh, a police detective lieutenant, told Patch that the department is putting more effort into distributing more information on shoplifting crimes within the community in order to raise awareness.
"While the Ulta Beauty Store has been highlighted in the recent posts, they are not alone. Various stores in our town have been the victim of retail theft which hurts businesses and thwarts commerce," police said on social media.

In the last week, police have released information about four shoplifting incidents that occurred at the Chester Ulta Beauty store, which is located at 213 Route 206, Ste 380, during the month of March.
"Our biggest problem that we are experiencing and have been experiencing ever since COVID-19 is spikes in shoplifting, fraud and other internet crimes, which we are aggressively investigating and have made quite a few arrests," Police Chief Ryan McNamee said at the Jan. 17 township council meeting.

As a way to combat the ongoing shoplifting occurrences, police stated that they have already increased their presence in stores and are continuing to investigate these crimes and make arrests, but they are asking for the public's assistance.
"If you observe one of these situations, please do not get directly involved or attempt to prevent these individuals from leaving. You can assist us by being a good witness," the police said.
According to police, any physical description, the license plate of a vehicle they may be driving, or any other information you can provide is always welcome and appreciated.
Recently, police have asked for assistance in locating two people accused of stealing from the Ulta Beauty store in Chester. The theft occurred on Thursday, April 13, according to the Chester Police Department.
