ICYMI: Lifelong Chester Resident, Firefighter Dies At 86
Walter Conklin worked for the Morris County Department of Public Works.

CHESTER, N.J. – If anyone knew Chester and its history over the last century, it was Walter Rockefeller Conklin.
The lifelong Chester resident died at home surrounded by his family on May 20 at the age of 86.

Conklin was born Nov. 2, 1929 in Chester and joined the Chester Volunteer Fire Company in 1952. He worked for the Morris County Road Department for man years and thoroughly enjoyed the outdoors, including hunting, fishing, and camping.
He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed gardening as well.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Kay; two children; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A celebration of Conklin’s life will include a visitation on Tuesday, May 24, from 5 to 8 p.m. at William J. Leber Funeral Home on Furnace Road in Chester. A 10:30 a.m. funeral service is planned for Wednesday, May 25, at the funeral home.
