Ironia Road Bridge Closed Two Months During Repairs: Morris County Officials
A three-mile detour will be in place while the contractor constructs a new bridge, official said.
CHESTER, N.J.-- The Ironia Road Bridge, which crosses the Burnett Brook at the Chester/Randolph border, is expected to be closed for two months while a $316,00 repair project is completed, officials said.
The 12-by-23 foot bridge is located between South Road and Dover-Chester Road.
A three-mile detour will be installed on South Road to Dover-Chester Road to Ironia Road, officials said.

“We ask motorists and cyclists who use the bridge for patience during this project, and to understand it must be replaced for safety reasons,’’ said Morris County Freeholder John Cesaro, the county governing board’s liaison on road and bridge projects.
The Ironia Road Bridge was built in 1920 and rehabilitated in 1990, said Morris County Communications and Digital Media Manager Larry Ragonese.

The bridge must be replaced because "the steel stringers are rusted and deteriorating, and there also is undermining of the bridge foundations," according to Ragonese.
"The new structure will be a pre-cast, three-sided frame bridge with concrete substructures and stone facing," he said.
The bridge's with will be expanded to 26 feet, Ragonese added.
Ron-Jon Construction (Butler) was awarded the contract.
The project is being funded by Morris County, Ragonese said.
