New Nor'Easter Forecast For NJ's Weekend

Latest track shows an earlier start—and earlier finish—to the seventh consecutive weekend of wet weather.

NEW JERSEY - A shift in the forecast will bring a burgeoning nor'easter into the region earlier than expected and might see the balance of the weekend salvageable.

Thursday features sunshine, but National Weather Service forecasters say that the steady rain will move into the Garden State Friday and stay through Saturday morning. The change is due to a sweep of dry air expected to end the rain from southwest to northeast in this corridor on Saturday, forecasters said.

Friday will be the wettest period, and sporadic urban flooding is possible. A few thunderstorms are also expected, especially Friday afternoon, according to AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Adam Douty.

"Which areas get hit the hardest by the effects of rain and wind will depend on the track and strength of the storm, but there is the likelihood of a thorough soaking in parts of the northeast U.S. and Atlantic Canada this weekend," Douty said.

The National Weather Service added that rain will develop during the day Friday, strengthening into Saturday. Gusty winds are expected Saturday before the storm system moves out.

"The storm has the potential to lead to urban-style flooding, especially but not limited to where leaves have fallen and block storm drains," Douty said. "This new weekend storm with its wind and rain is likely to strip a lot of leaves off the trees where the canopy remains in the Northeast."
