Retired Morris Teacher, Biz Owner Indicted On Child Sex Assault Charges

Maria Patamia taught in Mt. Olive for more than 30 years.

A retired Mt. Olive school teacher has been indicted on charges of sexual assault on a teen girl that occurred more than 20 years ago, the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office announced.

Maria Patamia, 58, of Netcong, was indicted on two counts of second degree sexual assault for incidents that occurred in Netcong between June 1, 1993 and April 7, 1994. The alleged victim was a girl between the ages of 13 and 16.

Patamia was initially charged in May of 2015 and is the owner of Fanucci’s Café in Netcong. She posted the $75,000 bail and has not been permitted to be in contact with anyone under the age of 16 since.

According to the Mt. Olive Board of Education’s meeting minutes, Patamia retired from the district as a Middle School Health and Physical Education teacher after 32 years, effective July 1, 2012.
