School Resource Officer Needed In Chester: How To Apply
Recently-retired law enforcement officers may apply for this job, which starts next school year.
CHESTER, NJ — Recently-retired police officers who are looking for a new way to serve the community may apply to be a school resource officer in Chester.
Chester Police are seeking a Class III Special Law Enforcement Officer, also known as a school resource officer, for the 2024/25 school year.
Applicants must meet certain requirements, and be eligible for New Jersey Police Training Commission licensing.

A person is eligible to be appointed as a Special Officer Class III if he or she is under 65 years old, and has retired in good standing as a law enforcement officer within the last three years.
The position starts at $35 per hour, Chester PD said.

The other minimum qualifications are:
- Be a citizen of the U.S. and a resident of New Jersey
- Be capable of performing the functions of the position
- Possess an NJ Police Training Commission basic police officer certification or NJ State Police Academy certification
- Possess a valid New Jersey driver license
- Successfully pass a background investigation and psychological/medical evaluations
