Fuel Truck Catches On Fire Saturday Night In Middletown
Middletown Police received a 911 call about the fire at 6:20 p.m. Saturday in the area of Henry Place and Rt. 36 south in North Middletown:
MIDDLETOWN, NJ — A fuel truck caught on fire Saturday evening on Rt. 36 in Middletown, and the Middletown volunteer fire department provided these photos from the scene.
Middletown Police received a 911 call about the fire at 6:20 p.m. Saturday in the area of Henry Place and Rt. 36 south in the North Middletown section.
First arriving units from the Middletown Township Police Department encountered a fuel truck on fire, with a well-involved fire in the engine and cab area of the truck. Middletown Fire Chief William Kane Jr. arrived, along with firefighters from the East Keansburg Fire Company, and immediately began suppression operations. An additional engine from Port Monmouth Fire Company was requested to assist with water supply.

Due to the significant amount of fuel still in the fuel truck, the Monmouth County Hazardous Materials Unit was also requested to assist at the scene.
Middletown Police, State Police and the NJ Department of Transportation shut down Rt. 36 in both directions Saturday night as the fire was put out. The scene was cleared at 9:45 p.m.

Approximately 28 firefighters responded and no injuries were reported.
