August is apparently the best and clearest month to see stars in the sky. Join S.T.A.R. Astronomy Association and the park rangers to view the night skies. It is the best time of month to observe the planet Saturn in the eastern skies. Telescopes will be set up for viewing. Bring binoculars and/or telescopes.

19th Annual Jamaica Bay Shorebird Festival

Saturday, August 24, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Join the Littoral Society and partners at the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge to explore the diversity of New York City’s shorebirds. Register on our website.

Junior Ranger Angler: Learn Surf Fishing: The National Park Service and the American Littoral Society are partnering again this summer to teach young people surf fishing on Sandy Hook. Children 11 and up are welcome with a supervising adult. Sessions available on August 6 and 13. Register on our website.

Sixth Annual Littorally Local Sunset Cruise

Friday, September 27, 5:30 - 8:30 p.m. Join American Littoral Society for their sixth annual Littorally Local Sunset Cruise out of Atlantic Highlands. The event will include dockside cocktails and appetizers onboard Teal Cruises' Festiva, followed by a sunset cruise on Sandy Hook Bay. Find more information and register on their website.
