The project is intended to result in smoother and more even courts for tennis and pickleball.
As part of the renovations, there will be tree removal in the surrounding area. Tree roots can grow underneath the courts, causing cracks, uneven surfaces and potential safety hazards, said Middletown Township.

Leaves, twigs, and other debris can accumulate on the courts, which makes maintenance difficult and can create slippery conditions. Overhanging trees can block sunlight, preventing the courts from drying quickly after rain and can lead to prolonged wet and potentially unsafe playing conditions.
