Crowbar-Wielding Thief Shatters Doors Of Montclair Businesses: Police

A thief stole more than $20,000 worth of merchandise from a local business, an employee told police.

MONTCLAIR, NJ — A thief wielding a yellow crowbar shattered the doors of two local businesses in Montclair earlier this week, stealing more than $20,000 in merchandise from one of them, authorities say.

The Montclair Police Department released the following details about each incident:

March 14 (Bloomfield Avenue) – Officers responded to an activated burglar alarm at The Connect Clothing Sore at 4:54 a.m. Surveillance footage shows a suspect approaching the storefront with a yellow crowbar and using it to repeatedly strike the front window glass pane of the business, causing it to shatter. The business’s alarm was activated, and the suspect – who didn’t gain access to the store – fled northbound across Bloomfield Avenue, police said.

March 14 (Lackawanna Plaza) – Officers responded to Genevieve's Exclusive Vintage Collection after getting a report about a shattered front window. Surveillance video shows a male suspect arrive at the store around 3 a.m. The man can be seen using a yellow crowbar to break the glass and enter the premises. An employee told police that more than $20,000 in merchandise was stolen. The suspect was wearing a brown hooded sweatshirt with the hood up, and a black mask covering most of his face, police said.
