Montclair Resident Joins Board Of Sister Rose Thering Fund

The Sister Rose Thering Fund for Education in Jewish-Christian Studies (SRTF) at Seton Hall University is pleased to welcome Steven Pomerantz to its Board of Trustees for a three-year term, effective July 1, 2024. Pomerantz is a nonprofit consultant who currently serves on the boards of other New Jersey organizations, including the Board of the New Jersey Council of Charitable Gift Planners and the Warren County Community College Foundation, of which he is chair. Prior to establishing his nonprofit career, Pomerantz was a financial services professional for 25 years, holding executive-level positions in investment banking.
“The Sister Rose Thering Fund’s mission is of particular interest to me, professionally and personally,” Pomerantz said. “I have been involved in development, fundraising and donor relations for a variety of organizations, and have a deep, tangible commitment to education. Additionally, I’ve had a great deal of personal experience with groups and institutions connected to New Jersey’s Jewish and Christian communities, and I look forward to sharing my perspective and understanding with all that the Fund does.”

Sister Rose Thering Fund Executive Director Anthony Sciglitano said, “We are delighted to welcome Steven to our Board of Trustees. His enthusiasm for our mission, his expertise in nonprofit management and fundraising, and his experience in financial services are an outstanding combination. We look forward to all that the Sister Rose Thering Fund will accomplish with Steven’s election to our Board.”
Pomerantz holds a bachelor’s degree in history and political science from Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, and has served on its special purpose fundraising committees, where he had a significant role in establishing two special funds for the College. He is a member of its Admissions Volunteer Society, where he takes an active role in interviewing prospective students. Pomerantz is an alumnus of Delbarton School in Morristown, and has been involved in the school’s fundraising efforts for many years.

A long-time congregant of Temple Sharey Tefilo-Israel in South Orange, Steven currently serves on its finance committee. He has also held a variety of volunteer positions, including co-financial secretary, vice president of finance, treasurer, and as a member of its capital campaign advisory council. He was previously on the synagogue’s Foundation board.
In addition, Steven’s nonprofit experience includes work for the Association of Fundraising Professionals – New Jersey Chapter, CivicStory.org, Covenant House of New Jersey and Nancy’s Place. His responsibilities have included development, donor research, fundraising, planned giving, strategic planning, events and admissions.
Steven lives in Montclair, New Jersey, and is the parent of two adult sons. He’s a dedicated musician, plays clarinet, saxophone and flute, and has many personal interests, including music, education, history, current events, the arts and sports.
