Obama Taps Former Montclair Resident for Secretary of Homeland Security

General Counsel for the Defense Department Jeh Johnson awaits confirmation.

Jeh Johnson left Montclair for Washington, D.C. when he was chosen by President Barack Obama to serve as General Counsel for the Defense Department in January 2009. Johnson remained the Pentagon's top lawyer until Dec. 2012 when he resigned to return to private practice.

On Oct. 18, Obama nominated Johnson to serve as Secretary of Homeland Security. The video above shows the president in the Rose Garden of the White House announcing his choice to replace Secretary Janet Napolitano.

The nomination was sent to the U.S. Senate for confirmation on Monday.
