Police Investigate String Of Burglaries

Residents advised to report any suspicious activity to Montclair Police.

Police are investigating a trio of burglaries that occurred within a two-day period last week.

In the first case, on the morning of July 16, a homeowner at Montclair Avenue told police that someone had broken into the house during the night through a rear kitchen window that had been left open. The person appeared to have entered the home by cutting the screen of the open window. The homeowner said that an LGTV and a Droid cell phone both were missing. If anyone has any information that might assist in the investigation they can contact Det. DeGrazio at 973-509-4717.

Only a few hours later, a homeowner near Prospect and Claremont avenues told police that someone had broken into the house—again in the middle of the night. The homeowner told police that the back door had been left unlocked during the night. The homeowner also said that around 1:50 a.m. they heard someone walking around downstairs but thought it must have been a family member. In the morning, the homeowner realized that two laptop computers were missing. If anyone has any information that might assist in the investigation they can contact Det. Cunningham at 973-509-4716.

Finally, in the third case, on July 17, a homeowner on Orange Road told police that someone had broken into the house through an open living room window. The homeowner said they had left at about 5 p.m. and that, when they returned at 11:30 p.m., the window was open and a laptop computer was missing. If anyone has any information that might assist in the investigation they can contact Det. Anderson at 973-509-4706.
