Police Make Heroin Bust In Upper Montclair

A 24-year-old Paterson man was caught with heroin in a school zone, Montclair police said.

 

A 24-year-old Paterson man was arrested after being caught with dozens of glassine envelopes of heroin in Upper Montclair, police said.

Jaime Rodriguez was arrested in a yard on Lorraine Avenue near Valley Road after dropping 10 envelopes of heroin on the ground.

Police said he then threw another 40 envelopes of heroin over a fence.

Montclair Detective Lt. Angel Roman said Rodriguez was walking along Oakwood Avenue near Valley Road in Upper Montclair on Friday evening when he was first spotted by police.

The man immediately began running along Valley Road, Roman said, before dropping the 10 glassine envelopes stamped with "poison" and "caution" that contained heroin.

(Poison and caution are street brand names for heroin.)

Roman added that, after Rodriguez was chased down and ultimately arrested on Lorraine, an additional 20 envelopes of heroin were found on him.

Rodriguez was charged with seeking to sell heroin in a school zone, Roman said.

He was held on $25,000 bail, he said.
