The Montclair Public Library and the newly reopened Clary Anderson Arena are teaming up to offer a special promotion in November.

MONTCLAIR, NJ — Ice skating fans and book enthusiasts have a reason to smile in Montclair.

The Montclair Public Library and the newly reopened Clary Anderson Arena are teaming up this November to offer a “Sign Up and Skate” promotion that celebrates both reading and recreation.

Throughout the month, anyone who signs up for a new Montclair Public Library card will receive a free ice skating pass to Clary Anderson Arena. In addition, current library cardholders can show their card at the rink to receive $3 off public skate admission every time they visit.

The promotion ends Nov. 30. Here’s how it works, organizers said:

  • Sign up for a new library card at Montclair Public Library’s main branch, located at 50 South Fullerton Avenue or Bellevue Avenue Branch, located at 185 Bellevue Avenue to receive a free ice skating pass.
  • Already have a Montclair Public Library card? Bring it to Clary Anderson Arena for $3 off public skate admission each time you visit.

After recently reopening to the public, Clary Anderson Arena is eager to welcome skaters back to the ice and find new ways to bring the joy of ice skating to the community, program organizers said.

To celebrate the reopening, community members can visit the rink on Friday, Nov. 28 for a ribbon cutting at 10:30 a.m., a “Try Learn to Skate for Free” session at 11 a.m. (registration required), and an open skate from noon to 3 p.m.

“As an avid reader, it is just another way for us to encourage kids to read and stay physically active while having a great time,” said Rita Mitchell, general manager of the rink.

“It is my hope that we see increased youth traffic at the library and in turn, kids can get a free skate just for signing up and reading,” Mitchell said.

“Not only will this give our community members another reason to love their library, but will help celebrate the reopening of a beloved local institution,” Library Director Radwa Ali said.
