Special Olympics Brings Cheers, Inspiration To Essex County

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — A field of inspiring young athletes with physical and mental disabilities recently rallied enthusiastic cheers from a large crowd of supporters at the annual Essex County Special Olympics Track and Field Competition.

Wednesday’s competition at Brookdale Park in Montclair and Bloomfield was the 18th year that Essex County has hosted the spring event, which draws participants from towns across the region.

“What an exciting opening ceremony to our Summer Special Olympics in Essex County Brookdale Park,” Essex County Executive Joseph DiVincenzo Jr. commented.

“Congratulations to our student-athletes and thank you to the coaches, volunteers and law enforcement for supporting this great event,” he added.
