You'd think that, at the end of July, it might be fairly quiet around Montclair. But in this town there's always something going on!
1) Emma Axelrod, Sammi Siegel, and Elena Tsemberis—three Montclair High School students—will deliver more than 130,000 signatures from their Change.org petitions, calling on the Commission on Presidential Debates to appoint a woman moderator for one of three 2012 U.S. presidential debates. No woman has moderated a debate between candidates for the U.S. presidency since 1992. They will deliver the petition on Tuesday in Washington, D.C. Watch for coverage of this on Montclair Patch.

3) The Miller Street Community Farm stand will be up and running every Friday afternoon beginning August 3, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Freshly grown produce from the farm will be sold at affordable prices, helping make locally grown food available at affordable prices for those with limited budgets. The stand will be located at the Montclair Child Development Center, 33 Fulton Street, Montclair. For more information, go here.

4) Pack a picnic, gather up the kids and savor a summer Sunday afternoon at Van Vleck Gardens with Yosi & the Superdads. Yosi’s “Rockin’ Band” will present a lively and humorous family-friendly concert outdoors at Van Vleck on Sunday afternoon, August 5, starting at 1 p.m. Admission is $10 per person, free for Friends of Van Vleck for up to four family members at the Family level and above. Concertgoers are invited to bring a blanket or lawn chairs and enjoy a picnic on the Van Vleck grounds. Gates open at noon. The concert will be held in fair weather only at 21 Van Vleck Street, Montclair.
5) Progress continues on the project. Montclair Patch will provide an update this week. The street is due—hopefully—to be opened up to vehicular traffic again by the end of the week.
