MOORESTOWN, NJ — Five candidates filed to run for school board in Moorestown, while the board president opted not to run for re-election.

Three of the board's nine seats are up for election in November. Incumbents Claudine Morano and Danielle Miller — the board's current vice president — are running for re-election.

The third seat belongs to Board President Mark Villanueva, who did not file to run for re-election to the governing body.

Monday marked the deadline for hopefuls to file petitions for candidacy in New Jersey's school board elections, which will be held Nov. 4.

The election will come weeks after the Moorestown School District's bond referendum on Sept. 16, when local voters will decide on more than $100 million in facility upgrades for all schools.

School board elections are nonpartisan. But candidates can choose a slogan to appear with their name on the ballot.
