MOORESTOWN, NJ — Even when you run a widely acclaimed bakery, it's tough out there, according to a Moorestown business owner.

Jeff Jimenez, the owner and baker of Cupcake Carnivale, says his sales have been declining "for quite some time," citing rising costs of living and doing business that have made it difficult for smaller establishments.

On Thursday, he asked the public to consider Cupcake Carnivale and other Moorestown small businesses for their holiday needs.

"We all know how expensive everything is," Jimenez said on Cupcake Carnivale's social media pages. "We're in a sh***y economy right now and the only businesses that are thriving are the big retail corporations. Small businesses are struggling and we (and I) really need your support and help."

Since 2012, Cupcake Carnivale has been serving sweets out of its food truck at events throughout the region. The Moorestown shop opened in 2020.

The business has been recognized by several regional and national media outlets and was ranked as the 23rd-best food truck in the nation by The Daily Meal in 2016.

"It's a daily struggle, but I refuse to cut corners on any of my products by using lesser quality ingredients," Jimenez said. "Our cakes and frosting are made from scratch and in small batches. We don't use cake mixes nor do we use shortening or lard in our frosting."

Cupcake Carnivale is located at 55 E Main St.
