Camden Man Faces Murder Charge In Deadly Shooting​

The 41-year-old suspect faces a first-degree murder charge, along with other charges, in the slaying.

CAMDEN, NJ — The Camden man accused in a Dec. 26 shooting that left one dead is now facing a charge of first-degree murder.

Acting Camden County Prosecutor Jill S. Mayer on Thursday announced the man, 41-year-old Frederic Boyd, also faces a count of second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, one count of second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and one count of second-degree certain persons.

Police said the shooting happened Saturday in Boyd's apartment in the 1200 block of Chestnut Street. Darrell Matthews, the 46-year-old victim from Camden, was taken to a nearby hospital with a gunshot wound. There, he was pronounced dead.

Authorities said security camera footage showed Boyd leaving the apartment shortly after 8 p.m., around the time the shooting occurred. Investigators also found a handgun in a nearby area.

Boyd was arrested on Wednesday by U.S. Marshals in Mount Holly and, as of writing, was awaiting a detention hearing in the Camden County Correctional Facility.
