MOORESTOWN, NJ — Teens and adults can now receive free naloxone — a medication that reverses the effects of an opioid overdose — from hundreds of New Jersey pharmacies, including several in the Moorestown area.

Under the state's Naloxone365 initiative, anyone 14 and older can request or obtain naloxone for free at participating pharmacies. No prescription is necessary, and you don't need to provide a name or reason. One two-dose naloxone nasal spray kit is provided per visit.

State officials began recruiting pharmacies for the program after Gov. Phil Murphy announced the initiative in January. The New Jersey Department of Human Services launched StopOverdoses.nj.gov on Monday, with 610 pharmacies participating and 40,687 naloxone kits already distributed.

"Naloxone is a safe, easy to use, fast-acting and effective nasal spray medication to reverse an overdose and save someone's life," said Sarah Adelman, the state's human services commissioner. "Making naloxone accessible and available for free and anonymously in pharmacies eliminates the most common barriers to the life-saving medication, helps reduce stigma, and ultimately may encourage people to seek treatment and long-term recovery."

The website's resources include a list of pharmacies that have joined the program. Here are some participating locations around Moorestown:
