Brewpub Chain Shuts Down All Locations, Including Its Last-Remaining South Jersey Eatery

Weeks ago, the company closed 1 of its 2 South Jersey restaurants. Now, all remaining locations have abruptly closed.

MAPLE SHADE, NJ — Iron Hill Brewery & Restaurant, a regional chain of brewpubs that entered downsizing efforts with multiple South Jersey locations, has abruptly closed all restaurants, the company announced Thursday.

Just weeks ago, Iron Hill Brewery had 19 locations, including eateries in Voorhees and Maple Shade.

Patch broke news Sept. 10 that Iron Hill closed the Voorhees restaurant, along with a restaurant in Philadelphia and its flagship brewery in Newark, Delaware.

On Thursday, the company announced that all remaining locations have closed.

"It has been our pleasure to serve you, and we are deeply grateful for your support, friendship, and loyalty over the years," Iron Hill Brewery said on social media. "We sincerely hope to return in the future, an when we do, we promise to welcome you with open arms."

It wasn't immediately clear whether the company will attempt a comeback, or in what form. A company spokesperson didn't immediately respond to Patch's questions.

The closures were abrupt. Only two days ago, Iron Hill Brewery was promoting Oktoberfest celebrations that were set to take place at its restaurants this weekend.

Iron Hill Brewery was founded in Delaware as a craft brewery and restaurant. The chain expanded to New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Georgia and South Carolina.

The Maple Shade location opened in 2009, becoming the state's 13th brewpub, according to New Jersey Monthly's coverage at the time. Iron Hill expanded to Voorhees four years later.

The recent decision to close the Voorhees location and two others was "part of the company’s ongoing efforts to adapt to a changing business landscape while focusing on strengthening its long-term growth and success," an Iron Hill Brewery spokesperson told Patch earlier this month.
