It’s Good to Have Friends

Moorestown Library gets by with a little help from its Friends.

You know the library offers cool stuff, but who’s paying for it?

If you’ve been to the recently, you’ve probably noticed that it is abuzz with activity for patrons of all ages. Children are pouring in to report to teenage volunteers about the books they’ve read in hopes of earning a Borders gift card. Teens are entering our Summer Reading Raffle to win everything from autographed books to gift cards to popular stores. Adults are enjoying a “Taste of the World” and winning delicious prizes through our brand new adult summer reading program.

And that’s not all. Movie buffs flock to our “Favorite Films” series. Children gather around our new touch-screen computer to play fun and educational games. New parents are registering their babies for library cards and getting free welcome gifts. Children of all ages are enjoying a summer full of Lego building, movies, games, stuffed animal sleepovers and Mad Science.

By now you may be thinking, “That all sounds great, but WHO’S PAYING FOR ALL THIS?!”

When it comes to special events, furnishings, celebrations, prizes, crafts and a host of other library offerings, we depend on support from the Friends of the Library to make it all happen.

Through small yearly membership dues, book sales and other fundraising efforts, the Friends of the Moorestown Library greatly extend the value of your tax dollars by funding many important library initiatives above and beyond basic services.

So if you (or your children) enjoy coming to the library for summer reading, crafts, movies, or other special events, thank a Library Friend. Or better yet, become a Library Friend.
